Week of March 27-31

Welcome Back!!  I hope everyone had a relaxing break.  We will now gear up for fourth quarter.
This quarter goes very quickly, so make sure to check Educate weekly and not fall behind on 4th quarter assignments.

Here are some important upcoming dates:

Wednesday, April 5th:  Brown homeroom chapel
Thursday/Friday:  April 6-7th, 9:30-10:30:  6th Grade Holocaust Presentations
Tuesday, April 11th, 1:45-3:00 pm:  5th Grade Genius hour presentations
TBD:  6th Grade Holocaust field trip
May 17-19:  5th Grade Field trip days

More information will be coming for these dates and any possible changes.
For now - we are back to a regular schedule!

5th Grade Language Arts:  Spelling:  We will begin the week with a pretest.  Pages 154-158 will be due on Thursday.  We will be adding an extra page each week to prepare for Achievement tests.  Final test will be on Thursday.
Grammar:  We will continue to work through the weekly grammar pages, skipping some to allow for more writing.  We will continue to take the weekly quiz on Friday, but will opt to work on writing and revising rather than the proofreading page each week.

Literature: Now that we have finish reading Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, we will do a short unit on fairy tales.  We will read a story from the Treasures book this week and then move on to read and compare other fairy tales.  Keep watch on Google classroom for all the assignments that will go with this unit.

**Because we will be reading short stories in class, each student must have a novel they are reading on their own.  We talked about it before break.  I will be checking this week that each student has a book to read.

5th Grade social studies:  The debate was amazing.  The students did a wonderful job, portraying their side of the debate.  They were able to recall and use a lot of information that we had read and discussed in class.  They learned a great deal from the experience.  We will not take a test on the chapter.  I will grade their debate work instead.
We are moving on to the Declaration of Independence, Revolutionary War and Constitution.  This week we will be watching some Liberty Kids videos and discussing these events.  There will be some video notes and questions, so if your child is not at school, they will have to watch the videos on line to complete the work!

At some point we will take a test on the Declaration chapter.  I will let you know when that will be.

6th Grade Literature:  We are finishing up our unit on the Holocaust.  This week we will be working on a project based research project in groups.  We plan to finish and present these projects the first week of April.  While researching we will be watching the documentary called "Paper Clips."  It is a wonderful documentary about the Holocaust and a small school in Tennessee.  There will be some guided question assignments that go along on Google classroom.
**During this unit, each student will need a book of their own to read.  I will be checking this week to see what each is reading.

I will spend a couple days this week touching base for the two days I missed before break.  ALso, I will be checking any missing work from that week.  If y our student was absent or left early for break, they will need to check on work that was missed.

Have a blessed week in the Lord,
Mrs. Brown
